#joy #strength Aug 07, 2023

For many men, exercise is just something they do to stay in shape and look good at the beach.

But did you know that regular exercise can benefit you in ways that maybe you'd never imagined? In fact, there are several unexpected benefits of exercise that can help you live a better life - the life that God meant for you to live!

In this post, we’ll discuss some of these benefits and help you see why they’re so important for Christian men who want to live life to the fullest.

5 Unexpected Benefits

Improved Mental Health

Exercise has been shown to improve mental health in several ways. This includes reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as improving brain function and memory. Regular exercise can also help reduce stress levels, which can help you feel more relaxed and focused throughout the day.

If you are struggling with your mental health, many experts suggest that far better than any medication is physical exercise and moving your body.

Increased Energy

If you find yourself feeling tired and sluggish, exercise may be just what you need to boost your energy levels. Exercise has been shown to increase endurance and stamina, making it easier for you to power through your day without feeling fatigued.

Why does this matter to Christian men?  Because when we get home from a hard day's work our work still isn't done!  We still need to show up and serve some more.  Therefore, increasing our energy levels is critical to fulfilling our role as a man of Honor, Discipline, Strength, and Joy.

Lower Risk of Chronic Disease

Some of the most common chronic diseases that men face include heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Fortunately, regular exercise has been shown to reduce the risk of developing these diseases and improve overall cardiovascular health.

Sadly, many men are filling their lives and bodies with all kinds of things that contributing to the development of these diseases.  If you want to live your life to the fullest and be around to live your best life in your later years, then make exercise a key piece of your life right away.

Improved Sleep Quality

If you struggle with getting a good night’s rest (and I have for most of my life!), then exercise may be just what you need to improve your sleep quality. Exercise has been shown to improve sleep duration and quality, making it easier for you to fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night.

I can attest to this with firsthand experience:  if you'll get up early and push yourself physically you will absolutely sleep better and more soundly and feel better in almost every way.

Stronger Relationships

Want to strengthen your relationships with your wife, your family, and your friends? Regular exercise can help with that too! Exercise has even been shown to improve communication skills and help you feel more connected with others.

If you want to be stronger relationally, then start here.  Make exercise a regular part of your life and watch your relationships strengthen and grow as a result.

As you can see, exercise offers a lot of unexpected benefits that can help you live a better life. Whether you’re looking to improve your mental health, increase your energy levels, reduce your risk of chronic disease, improve your sleep quality, or strengthen your relationships, exercise can help.
